VALORANT Animator Reveals How They Landed on the ‘Best’ Version of the Dangerous Alien-Like Araxys Skinline :

This scaly skinline includes skins for vandals, bulldogs, operators, and shorties, all of which react to fire like a living.Original versions of the animation featured the Araxis Vandal in their reloaded animation, cementing the idea of moving the sideplate individually from the start. Originally, the sideplates were not extended diagonally from the gun and formed sharp edges. Instead it seemed as if energy was slowly being sent back to gunpoint in a controlled manner.

To celebrate the release of the Araxys skin, here is my anim process for it. We went through many iterations for the anim until we found one that looks and feels the best for this skin. Props to the vfx and audio for making this gun shine. @PlayVALORANT pic.twitter.com/Lr4wb0g8Yp

However, Vu Lam and the team felt that the skin appeared to move too systematically away from the quintessential idea of the subject, thus leading to changes that actually brought out the futuristic style of the gun. The new direction for the skinline is complete with the less-rigid movement style of the sideplate, which can be seen in animations for reloading, shooting, and inspection of guns.Vu Lam also displayed the original references used to create Skinline’s unique kill animation, from which he enacted himself. The initial concept always included a UFO-like tractor beam pulling the defeated enemy upwards, although it was extended with more visual effects to “actually sell animation.”

Vu Lam notes that, for a skinline like Araxis, animators spend about two weeks on each weapon to ensure that the animations fit into the quality of the thematic. However, other more complex animations that include more dynamic parts may take longer, given that some may take a month or more.

ValORANT’s Araxys Skinline is now available for purchase within an in-game shop via a bundle, while gun skins can also be purchased individually.
