Riot to replace Summoner Names with Riot IDs starting November 20.
Summoner Names are a big part of the League of Legends user experience. They are unique tags that players could use to identify themselves. It’s a feature that has been a part of the game since its inception; however, it will no longer be available in the future.
Starting November 20, 2023, Riot will be removing Summoner Names from the game. Instead, League of Legends will shift to Riot IDs, similar to Riot’s other IPs, such as VALORANT and Runeterra.
According to Riot, the reasoning behind such a shift is to create a more unified experience across all of Riot’s IPs. There’s also the fact that Riot has been moving away from the word “Summoner” as it doesn’t coincide with the current Runeterra mythos.
That said, the change should not affect players much, as the current Riot IDs will become the new username. However, if you are looking to change you’re Riot ID, here’s how you can do it.
