Thus, this serves as a constant reminder of her life.
Grace Slick Net Worth
Grace Slick is a $20 million-wealthy retired American singer-songwriter and musician. A major figure in the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s, Grace Slick is best known for her singles “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love.” Starship and Jefferson Starship, two offshoot organizations that she was a part of, were founded by members of Jefferson Airplane. Grace Slick retains most of the rights and income from the song “White Rabbit,” which she wrote and produced alone. The song is still popular on streaming platforms, in commercials, and in films even after all these years.
How Old is Grace Slick?
The legendary Grace Slick came into this world in Highland Park, Illinois, on October 30, 1939, as Grace Barnett Wing. Her parents’ ancestry was mixed with that of Norway and Sweden. Highland Park, a wealthy suburb outside of Chicago, is where she and her younger brother spent their formative years. Nevertheless, Slick was always on the move as a child because her father was an investment banker and was relocated to many corporate branches. Grace had lived in the Chicago area, San Francisco, and Los Angeles before she started high school. She transferred to the exclusive, all-girls Castilleja School after a short stint at Palo Alto Senior High School, where her family had settled down in Palo Alto, California.
Slick travelled to New York City to attend Finch College after finishing high school. After her 1958 departure from Finch, she relocated to Coral Gables, Florida, and spent a year as a student at the University of Miami. After her 1961 marriage to San Francisco-based aspiring filmmaker Gerald Slick, she and her husband relocated to the city. While residing in California, she started writing music and worked as a fashion model for department stores owned by I. Magnin & Company.
Career
Jefferson Airplane, with whom she would eventually perform live, encouraged her to give music a shot. Grace and Jerry Slick formed a band because Grace was a gifted singer and composer and because Jerry was an accomplished musician. Grace had studied the piano and guitar. The name of the organization was The Great Society. San Franciscans were ecstatic when they performed their debut show in October 1965. Their meteoric rise to fame allowed them to afford studio time for an album within a matter of months. Unfortunately, the group’s lack of professionalism stemming from familiarity led to its disbandment in 1966.
Grace Slick joined Jefferson Airplane when SigneToly Anderson left the band. She said she wanted to be a part of the band because of how professional they were after losing their vocalist. During his tenure with Jefferson Airplane, the band was able to crank out more songs, including great albums like White Rabbit and Someone to Love. Grace Slick went from obscurity to national prominence in the ’60s rock scene in the span of less than three years as a band.
One of the many memorable things that happened during his tenure at Jefferson Airplane was that he would close his shows with a black panther fist, showing his support for the civil rights movement that was happening at the time. The first person to use the term “fucker” on a live television broadcast was her in 1969. After two members of Jefferson Airplane quit in 1973, leaving Slick and the rest of the band to forge a new group they called Jefferson Starship, the original lineup continued until 1973.
Regardless of the lineup, she was the unifying force that propelled Starship to a series of critically acclaimed albums and songs. Along the way, she dabbled in solo projects including Software, Dreams, and Manhole. With just Slick surviving from the original Jefferson Airplane lineup, she decided to start a new group under the name Starship when some of her fellow members quit. We Built This Town, one of the band’s many hit albums from 1985–1989, is a rock classic.
A final album was released by GraceSlick and her former Jefferson Airplane comrades just before GraceSlick retired from music. The band’s comeback record and subsequent tour were both commercial successes. As early as the 1990s, she stepped away from the music industry.
