CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A dog that was close to death is now being treated after it was placed in an Amazon box on the doorstep of an animal shelter caretaker in Pennsylvania.
According to Speranza Animal Rescue, a dog was left on the doorstep of the shelter owner's mother on Monday.
Staff said the mother immediately contacted her daughter, saying that she found a "dead" dog dropped off on her porch in an Amazon box.
On the box was a note, which explained that the dog was deaf and that the "owner only had (them) for a month and wasn't told (they) were sick."
The back of the note read, "She loves me very much and don't know how to help me because she doesn't have any money because she is sick."
Despite the initial concern, the canine, luckily, was not dead at all.
Clinging to life, Speranza staff acted quickly, stabilizing the dog so that they could get him to the ER.
Staff said the animal, now named G.I. Joe, was going in and out of consciousness, having seizures, and was covered in feces and urine.
Since the rescue, Speranza stated G.I. Joe has seen a neurologist who does not believe his seizures are epilepsy-related.
Instead, the doctor believes it may be from a lack of nutrition.
An MRI is being done on G.I. Joe Tuesday and the results of that will be posted when they are known.
Updates on his overall condition will be posted to Speranza's Facebook page as it changes.
