Alf Landon was an American politician. A Republican, he served as the 26th Governor of Kansas, from January 9, 1933 to January 11, 1937.
He was the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States in 1936.
Alf was the son of Anne (Mossman) and John Manuel Landon. He was married to Margaret Fleming, until her death. The couple had a daughter. He was then married to Theo Cobb, with whom he had two children, including Nancy Kassebaum (born Nancy Landon), who served as a U.S. Senator from Kansas, from 1978 to 1997. Nancy was married to U.S. Senator and Senate Minority, and Majority, Leader Howard Baker.
Alf’s paternal grandfather was Emmanuel/Manuel Landon (the son of Thomas Landon and Luama “Luamy” Jones). Emmanuel was born in New York. Thomas was the son of Thomas Landon and Nancy Hopkins.
